Save the date for the TSHA 2024 Covention in Fort Worth!

With each generation comes a new perspective and new ambitions. With changes following the COVID-19 pandemic, economic shift, and a higher need than ever for speech-language pathologists in the workforce, we have many new issues for candidates and hiring managers to consider. Generation Z (Gen Z) is now entering the workforce, and research indicates they are shifting their focus to how a company can support them—financially, socially, and mentally, by providing a sense of purpose.

As the start of the fall 2023 semester rapidly approaches, cohorts of incoming graduate students are preparing for new courses, experiences, and clients while also moving across the state or country. To those who are about to take on the role of graduate student in speech-language pathology, audiology, communication sciences and disorders, or any similar areas, I offer you these six tips.

The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) Award for Continuing Education (ACE) is a formal recognition of professionals who have demonstrated their commitment to lifelong learning by earning 7.0 ASHA continuing education units (CEUs) (70 contact hours) within a 36-month period. The ACE is awarded only to those who earn ASHA CEUs through participating in the ASHA CE Registry. Congratulations to the Texas Speech-Language-Hearing Association (TSHA) members who are ACE recipients from January 2022 through September 2022!

Once again, the Texas Speech-Language-Hearing Foundation (TSHF) was pleased to recognize current and past recipients of the TSHF Research Awards Program. While the amount of each award is modest, it can be enough to explore the feasibility of a novel idea, to support the preliminary research needed to apply for a larger, nationally funded research project, or maybe to add on to a currently funded project to extend the findings. 

Cafe TSHA is an initiative of the TSHA Publications Board. Levity Lounge is a walk on the lighter side. Tips for Tx offers clever hacks to up your therapy game. Tech Bytes covers new and noteworthy technology finds. Student Swap provides student-focused ideas and inspiration. Wellness Corner emphasizes self-care for service providers. We encourage you to submit your ideas to publications@txsha.org for consideration for publication in future issues.
