Connecting Parkinson's Disease, Brain Health and Swallowing

Giselle Carnaby, CCC-SLP, M.P.H., Ph.D.

Friday, June 26, 2026
12 p.m. - 2 p.m. CT

Parkinson's disease is the second fastest growing neurodegenerative disease in the US. This disease is more than just dopamine loss. Recent data suggests a strong vagal gut brain relationship involving inflammation, oxidative stress, and gut microbiome changes. Due to these discoveries, it is clear that swallowing and feeding behavior lay directly in the pathway to modify or exacerbate this relationship. This course will update SLP's on recent advances in Parkinson's disease and brain health with an emphasis on the relationship to swallowing behavior in this group.
