Did you know that children with speech sound difficulties are at an increased risk of language and reading difficulties? The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association’s (ASHA) meta-analysis of speech sound disorders as a risk factor for language and literacy found that children with speech sound difficulties exhibit lower language skills and challenges with phonological awareness, which are both essential to learning how to read and reading to learn.
