Our year is off to a moving start with so many plans and talented volunteers in place to make it all happen!
The 2024 Texas Speech-Language-Hearing Association (TSHA) Executive Board (EB) includes several members completing their terms this year as well as others who are beginning their two-year terms. The EB includes the President, President-Elect, Past President, six vice presidents (VPs), as well as our Legal and Legislative Counsel, Director of Governmental Affairs, Publications Board Chair, TSH Foundation President, Finance Advisory Committee (FAC) Chair, and two graduate student representatives. Each VP then works with their committee chairs throughout the year to focus on achieving their respective committee goals, which are derived from the TSHA Strategic Plan.
Our Executive Council (EC) is also in place, which includes the EB as well as chairs and co-chairs of 34 committees and our TSHA/ASHA Liaisons, including the State Advocate of Reimbursement (STAR), State Advocate of Medicare Policy (StAMP), and State Education Advocacy Leader (SEAL). Each member of this active council is now beginning their strategic initiatives and is planning their meetings for the year. We have planned a new meeting schedule for the EC this year for more communication opportunities throughout the year. Rather than the prior single weekend in-person meeting held in October, the EC will be meeting for four shorter virtual meetings throughout the year. This will facilitate reporting and discussion opportunities every quarter to help us all stay connected and focused on our respective goals.
I am especially excited this time of year as I look forward to our annual TSHA Convention! Our Educational and Scientific Affairs team has been working tirelessly since the conclusion of our 2023 Convention to plan the TSHA 68th Annual Convention & Exhibition, which will be held February 22-24 in Fort Worth, Texas, at the Omni Hotel and Fort Worth Convention Center. Upon review of the proposed schedule, I found there are 105 sessions scheduled over a packed three days that include our own speakers with expertise from Texas as well as invited speakers from around the country. Forums are planned from different areas of practice at which attendees can ask questions of the knowledgeable presenters, Master Classes are offered for more direct hands-on learning, and two great keynote sessions will start off the Thursday and Friday educational opportunities. There are many great posters, student activities, exhibits, networking opportunities, and social events planned. It will be a packed three days, but there is something for every participant, from a variety of service areas and practice types.
We anticipate a great 2024 and look forward to hearing from you all via our social media or emails. Thanks to you all for being a part of this great association!
