Job Placement

This service is offered to TSHA members only and is a complimentary benefit provided at Convention. Please complete the application form to be included in the list of applicants being sent to Employers. At the Convention, attendees registered for Job Placement Services will have the opportunity to meet with employers and interview for available positions. All interview/meeting times are 20 minutes. 

Job Placement hours are the following at the Hilton of the Americas in Houston. 

New this year - all interviews will be scheduled through the Convention Mobile App! Prior to Convention applicants will be sent instructions on how to request interviews with the employers through the app.

  • Wednesday, Feb 28: 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm (Check-in and Interview sign-up)
  • Thursday, March 1: 8:30 am. - 6:00 pm (Interviews from 1:00 pm - 5:00 pm)

SLP-Assistant Job Description:
PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The Speech/Language Pathology Assistant (SLP-A) works under the direction of a licensed SLP to provide speech therapy for students exhibiting communication disorders in the areas of language, articulation, fluency and voice that adversely affect educational success.

• Assume responsibility for the organization and operation of work within the area of supporting students and staff working with special education students following federal program guidelines.
• Assist the Licensed Speech-Language Pathologist in managing an existing caseload through involvement with the campus evaluation teams, consultation with parents and teachers, assistance in development of Individual Education Plans for eligible students.

Job responsibilities include administering formal and informal assessment; collaborating with teachers, parents, and other assessment professionals to identify student needs and make recommendations for services; and working in teams to provide evidence-based interventions and supports to meet student needs.

Humble ISD has very innovative programming for students with autism and social skills needs. We also have strong AAC, bilingual, dysphagia, and PPCD assessment teams. SLPs have manageable workloads and are provided support through mentoring and peer support meetings. Monthly meetings offer trainings where SLPs can get CEUs that can go toward licensure and CCC maintenance. Assistance is provided with Medicaid billing as well as with ARD scheduling and paperwork. Stipends are offered for supervision/mentoring, bilingual assessment/therapy, initial contract, and for contract renewal.

RESPONSIBILITIES

15.Comply with state regulations and national standards as they apply to the practice of Speech-Language Pathology.

QUALIFICATIONS
1.Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech, Language and Hearing Association.
2.A Speech-Language Pathologist completing the Clinical Fellowship with appropriate supervision from a certified and licensed SLP
3.Current state license as an SLP in the state of Texas
4.Must be able to communicate in English, both verbally and in writing.
5.Must possess problem-solving skills of the type and at a level necessary to accomplish the job.
6.Must possess good communication skills and be able to relate professionally and positively to residents, resident’s family members, and facility staff
7.Must meet all local health regulations and pass post-employment physical exam or drug screen if required.
