Norm-referenced Tests: Interpreting and Reporting

Although the the American Speech Language Hearing Association recommends determining an individual's need for services based on a variety of measures, the norm-referenced test often carries a great weight. To that end, individual practitioners may lose sight of some key aspects of norm-reference tests that help define the place of this tool in the entire assessment process. This session is designed to be a refresher on the purpose and formulation of norm-referenced tests, a reminder of the statistical properties associated with the results, and an assistance in appropriate interpreting and sharing of the outcomes. In addition there will be discussion of some current questions regarding the use of norm-referenced tests in the field of speech-language pathology. Although the information is applicable across the field, the examples will lean heavily on child language and child language disorders.
